Summary
Julian Fellowes tells a mini-mystery spanning forty years. Our narrator (who remains unnamed) finds himself going back to a time where the British upper class, a class Damian never actually belonged to, but infiltrated for one year in1968, still had some power, although dying, where women were ladies and men still gentlemen, even through the Woodstock era of the 60s and 70s. Julian Fellowes also wrote the screenplays to the movies Gosford Park and Vanity Fair (with Reece Witherspoon), and those who liked those movies will like this book. It can get tedious at times, but the story itself is woven in a way where you still want to get to the end to find out what happens next
